This year’s 2022 Busoga Masaza Cup tournament which was officially unveiled on Sunday, 1st May in Jinja city will finally come to a conclusion on the 17th of September 2022 with Kigulu, the defending champions battling Bukooli Namayingo at the Kyabazinga stadium Bugembe.
The winner will walk away with UGX 10 million and a trophy, the first runners up UGX 7 million, the second runners up UGX 5 million and the fourth UGX 3 million.
The tournament which has been broadcasting live on Baba TV and Baba FM attracted Nilespecial as the official broadcasting partners and MTN Uganda as the main sponsors, Mayuge sugar also came on board.
This year’s edition has been very competitive compared to the past editions. We have had a total of 92 goals scored,113 yellow cards and 4 red cards across 42 matches. The top scorer as it stands is Waiswa Kasango Arajabu from Bugabula.
The finals and 3rd place matches will be played on 17th September 2022 at the Kyabazinga stadium Bugembe. The 3rd place play-off match will kick off at 1 pm whereas the final at 3 pm.
The ordinary ticket will cost Shs 5000 for those who wish to pay with hard cash at the gate while those who will pay using MTN mobile money, will be paying UGX 3000 to access the stadium. The VIP ticket will cost Shs 20,000 on a first come first serve basis.
Owek. Amin Bbosa, the minister of sports in ObwaKyabazinga thanked Hon Adidwa for his exceptional support towards Bukooli Namayingo and Hon Mugema Panadol towards Kigulu. He also appealed to other members of parliament to do the same for their teams since the tournament fronts a lot about our origin.
Mr. John Paul Okwi, a representative from MTN Uganda, the main sponsors of this year’s edition pledged more support towards the Kingdom. He also revealed to continue to support the Busoga Masaza cup and other activities like the Bicycle race that will soon come up.
This year’s edition of the Busoga Masaza cup has seen Busoga unite and more talents discovered.
Bugabula and Butembe have seen most of their players join Jinja North United a big league team and many more players from different Masaza teams are being hunted by regional teams as they prepare for the 2022/2023 season.
