The senior Presidential advisor, in charge of political affairs, Hon. Ruth Katushabe, has appealed to the people of Lwengo to fight anyone misappropriating funds meant for developmental programs like Emyooga and NAADS.
While speaking at late Hajji Kasuse Muhamadi Balaba, Duwa prayers in Kyazanga, Lwengo District, Hon Ruth, appealed to the citizens to wake up and watch jealous the funds released from central Government to help fight poverty in the rural areas at household levels.
She noted that, the fight against corruption shouldn’t only be limited to criticism to the people at the center of Government, but even also at all the local government levels.
“let’s fight this pandemic called poverty together, the biggest sponsor of poverty is corruption, and this corruption is at all levels, at the central Government and our villages, Parishes, subcounty, and District levels. Therefore, it’s my humble appeal that we take on these corrupt officers even here at our local areas” she appealed.
She says that they have since instituted tough measures to ensure proper management of parish development model funds in a bid to avoid fraud.
Adding that, the Emyooga program is a presidential initiative on wealth and job creation, the program that targets Ugandans, especially in the informal sector, that come together in form of savings and credit cooperative societies.
She said like farmers should stick to the products emphasized by government officials under the PDM, because she was sure they would easily access ‘national, regional and international markers’.
Katushabe said that the monies sent to the parishes are not to be returned to the centre at the end of the financial year if it is unspent as is the practice, but that it will be incrementally supported with an extra Shs100 million every year to attract more users.
