Youths in Iganga have recovered their land that they had lost to Iganga high school as a result of Iganga high purchasing it from Iganga municipal council.
Youths of Iganga municipality have been battling with the two parties of Iganga municipal council and the school for selling their land and their case is already on the offices concerned with land wrangle of Catherine Bamugemeire.
Today they got a smile on their face when some of the municipal councilors, mayors, Iganga high school heads and youth leaders were taken to check and monitor the land that they are to be handed over by the municipal council in terms of compensation for the lost land
Iganga youths have been blaming Iganga municipal council for selling their land of about 50 by 100 feats to Iganga high school. However to mediate the situation, Iganga municipal council resolved the matters by compensating youths with 1 acre to carryout their development activities.
The land that they claim is Iganga freedom square located in Iganga municipal and the compensated land is in Buluza found in the outskirts of Iganga town in Nakigo Sub County.
The tour was spear headed by the Speaker of Iganga municipal council Sengoba Musa and admitted the offering of the council land to the youths in a way of compensation to the youths.
Mayor David Balaba was represented by Bangi Faridha who appreciated the youths for accepting what the council managed to compensate for them and advised the youth leaders not to take this land as their own property but for community development.
Also the deputy town clerk speaking to us informed that they had consent agreement with youths involving lawyers of both parties
Through youth representatives of Iganga municipal, they appreciated Iganga municipal council for accepting to compensate them their lost land and cautioned them to avoid again selling government properties. They also informed us some of the development activities they are to start with that they are to curb poverty and unemployment among them.
This land is just one acre that was given to them and its part of the government land that is meant to be used by Iganga municipal council and its being kept by Bakari Kiduma a resident of Buluza village Nakigo sub county who gave us the reasons why the council entrusted him with this land and promised to cooperate with the youths to develop this land
