A UPDF officer has been arrested for shooting and injuring four of his colleagues at Namugongo.
UPDF spokesman, Brig Richard Karemire, said the soldier identified as Corporal Joram Tumwesigye shot his colleagues unclear circumstances.
“True our soldier shot four of his colleagues and was arrested immediately. The four soldiers were taken to hospital and are out of danger,” Brig Karemire is quoted saying.
The army spokesperson also refuted earlier reports that had indicated that the soldier had shot and killed five pilgrims.
“I want to clarify that no pilgrim was killed or injured but it was only our officers. We are investigating the case to find out why he shot them,” Brig Karemire added.
Thousands of pilgrims have gathered at both the Catholic and Anglican shrines to celebrate Uganda Martyrs Day tomorrow.
