A retired Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has been arrested on allegations of forgery and theft.
The 66-year-old Capt. James Oculu was arrested from his home in Bukunjja, Mayuge district by officers from the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence.
Authorities say Oculu was falsely requesting drugs, which included Aminophylline, anti-malarial drugs Coartem and Panadol, from hospitals in Eastern Uganda on behalf of the UPDF. Oculu would reportedly sell them cheaply in the community.
According to Nsamba, the suspect also extorted Sh4.3 million from residents of Mayuge district, claiming that he would recruit them in the army.
He’s currently detained at Magamaga Military Barracks in Mayuge district, awaiting prosecution.
