Police in Lugazi has arrested 60 suspected criminals.
The suspects were arrested from Nakazadde and Kinyoro, Lugazi Municipality.
The Lugazi District Police Commander, Alex Wabwire says police was prompted to mount an operation following rampant cases of robbery, house breaking and circuilation of anonymous letters threatening residents.
The letters, which were last week thrown in Lugazi Municipality, caused panic among residents.
The letters contained a list of 26 names comprising area leaders and prominent businessmen and women, who are targeted by the authors. On the same list were three schools being targeted by the same group for possible attacks.
Several other residents have been asked for money ranging between 500,000 and 10 million Shillings.
Hellen Butoto, the Ssezibwa Region Police spokesperson, says the suspects are currently being held at Lugazi Police Station pending court.
Butoto also urges bar owners and traders with shops and bars to close before midnight.
