Having survived jail for defilement, a 22-year-old man is now facing a death penalty for allegedly killing his teenage wife.
The suspect ,whom ,authorities only identified as Terikya is said to have kicked his 16-year–old wife and mother of his two-month-old baby on the stomach causing her to suffer internal injuries that led to her death.
The two have been residing at Nabirumba Village,Nabwigulu sub-county in Kamuli district, where the incident happened.
Police say the incident was sparked by the wife’s failure to wash Terikya’s shoes.
He’s now on the run after learning about his wife’s death.
Busoga North police spokesperson,Micheal Kasadha, told our correspondent that Terikya will be charged with murder upon his arrest.
However,it’s not clear whether police will charge him with defilement as well since the girl was a minor when she got pregnant for him.
The laws of Uganda prescribe a death penalty as a maximum sentence for a person convicted of murder.
