International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8 every year.It commemorates the movement for women’s rights.
In Uganda, Women’s Day is a national holiday celebrated on 8 March were people acknowledge women’s contributions to their families and societies, stress on the requirement for improved treatment and rights for women.
Often Government officials hold gatherings especially in rural and suburban where they encourage women to move forward in life and make them aware of the facilities the Government is granting them.
Today the national celebration will be held at Busuubizi Core Primary Teachers college, Mityana District under the theme; “Empowerment of Rural women and Girls: opportunities and challenges.”
Accordingly, President Yoweri Museveni will be the chief guest.
