The Opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candididate, Betty Muzanira has been declared winner of the heated Rukungiri Woman MP by-election.
Muzanira garnered 50, 611 against her closest contender, Winfred Masiko of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) who polled 46, 329 votes.
In the third place was former state Minister of public service in charge of pensions Prisca Ssezi Mbaguta who was also once a district Woman MP after he got only 993 votes.
Fabith Kukundakwe of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) trailed with an embarrassing figure of 183 votes.
Muzanira was declared winner in the wee hours of Friday morning by the district returning electoral officer shortly after her party rejected poll results from Burora parish headquarters primary school.
EC would later acknowledge discrepancies in results from that particular polling station before scrapping it off the list.
