There was tension in Lyantonde Town as security personnel led an abrupt search at two high-end hotels in the area on Tuesday evening.
The officers reportedly attached to the Internal Security Organisation (ISO), most of them dressed in civilian outfits, conducted a search on Courtyard and Sky Blue Hotels located on Mbarara road in Lyantonde Town Council.
According to eyewitnesses, the security officers stormed the hotels and cordoned them off while mounting a search in the rooms.
One of the reception attendants at Courtyard Hotel who preferred anonymity over the sensitivity of the matter said about ten men dressed in civilian outfits and driving private vehicles entered the premises and introduced them as security officers.
The attendant said that three of the officers asked for the office of the Hotel Manager and accordingly went around the entire hotel compound and rooms, saying they were looking for something. He said they never disclosed the motive of the search but that upon return, one of them asked when General Kale Kayihura, the former Inspector General of Police, last visited the place.
A security guard at Sky-blue Hotel says that another group of armed personnel was waiting outside, as their colleagues searched the hotels.
Farouk Twesigye, a resident in Lyantonde Town Council confirmed the presence of security personnel at the hotels and also acknowledged that General Kayihura is regular reveller at the hotels.
Meanwhile, in the wake of reports about the invasion at the hotel a team of local security officers led by Sulaiman Tiguragara Matojo, the Lyantonde Resident District Commissioner and Police chiefs visited that premises and interviewed some of the staffs.
Although Tiguragara confirms the army’s visit to the hotels, he declined to divulge details of their discussion with the management.
